The Mission Internal Medical Group participates in clinical trials based on sound scientific principles, which use the standards of Good Clinical Practice while adhering to the regulatory guidelines of accepted Institutional Review Boards and the FDA.
We have ongoing research in our Cardiology, Endocrinology, Pulmonary and Rheumatology Departments.

Areas of ongoing interest and research by our physicians include:
Cardiology and Nuclear Medicine:
- Catheter balloon valvuloplasty for treatment of mitral stenosis
- Uses of the laser intracoronary plaque ablation
- Drug treatment of angina, ischemia, and hypertension
- New designs for permanent pacemaker leads
Endocrinology:
- Diabetes and metabolism related to weight loss
- Osteoporosis
- Diabetes and new medications
- Insulin delivery systems
- Hormone replacement therapy
Pulmonary:
- New anticoagulant for patients with prior recent history of deep vein thrombosis or pulmonary embolus.
- Use of a novel devise to reduce lung volumes and improve breathing in patients with emphysema without the need for invasive surgery.
Rheumatology:
- Utilization of DMARDs and biologics in rheumatoid arthritis
- Real-world effectiveness of select biologic and DMARD monotherapy and combination therapy in the treatment of rheumatoid arthritis
