endocrinology /en·do·cri·nol·o·gy/ (-nol´ah-je):
The subspecialty of internal medicine dedicated to the study of the biosynthesis, storage, chemistry, and physiological function of hormones and cells.
Endocrinology is concerned with the study of the biosynthesis, storage, chemistry, and physiological function of hormones and with the cells of the endocrine glands and tissues that secrete them. The medical specialty of endocrinology involves the diagnostic evaluation of a wide variety of symptoms and variations and the long-term management of disorders of deficiency or excess of one or more of such hormones.
Mission Internal Medical Group's Endocrinology team of 4 Physicians, 2 Nurse Practioners and Registered Dietitian focus on caring for the person as well as the disease. Most endocrine disorders are chronic diseases that necessitate life-long care, and an understanding of the patient at the personal and social level as well on the molecular level - making the physician–patient relationship very important in the therapeutic process.
Some of the most common endocrine diseases include:
- • Diabetes mellitus • Hypothyroidism • Metabolic syndrome • Osteoporosis
The diagnosis and treatment of endocrine diseases are guided by laboratory tests to a greater extent than for most specialties. Our endocrinologists have an extensive knowledge of clinical chemistry and biochemistry to understand your conditions and look forward to building a relationship with you that guides you to your optimal health.
Also available in our Endocrine Department:
- The Osteoporosis Center
- Clinical Research Department

MIMG's Endocrinology Department is comprised of four Endocrinologists and two Nurse Practitioners.
