Vascular Studies
MIMG Vascular Lab has attained recognition for its commitment to providing a high level of patient care and a quality testing for the diagnosis of vascular disease. Our physicians are Board Certified in Interventional Cardiology, with special area of interest in endovascular therapy for peripheral vascular disease. Assisting the physicians is a highly educated and skilled support staff to ensure the provision of the highest quality care.
Cardiovascular disease is the leading cause of death in the United States. The third leading cause of death and disability is stroke, a disorder of the blood supply to the brain. The arteries bring oxygen and other nutrients to the cells of the body and veins take away waste products form the cells. Decrease Blood flow can occur anywhere in the body.
Early detection of life threatening vascular disease is possible through the use of non-invasive tests that are used to evaluate blood flow and pressures in arteries and veins by bouncing high-frequency sound waves off red blood cells. A transducer (a small hand-held device) sends out the ultrasonic sound waves. The Doppler affect can estimate how fact blood flows by measuring the rate of change in the frequency. This procedure will measure the blood flow in the blood vessels. In this way abnormal blood flow as the results of a blood clot, plaque or inflammation can be identified.
The test is safe, simple and because we are a self contained laboratory, your test results are available to you and your physician quickly.
Carotid Artery Duplex Scan
A carotid artery duplex scan is done to assess occlusion (blockage) or stenosis (narrowing) of the carotid arteries of the neck and branches of the carotid artery. The carotid arteries in the neck are the major suppliers of blood to the brain.
Aorta Scan
An aorta scan detects aorta aneurysms. An aneurysm occurs when part of an artery swells. It is caused by a damaged blood vessel or a weakness in the blood vessel wall. The pressure of blood in the artery causes it to “balloon” out at the weak point. Aneurysms can occur anywhere in the body, but they are most common on the wall of the aorta, the largest artery in the body.
Venous Duplex Scan
Venous scans are used to detect blood clots in the veins of the lower extremities. Sound waves are used to create a picture of the veins to determine the presence or absence of blood flow and the direction of flow. Duplex scanning can be reliably used to diagnose venous clot formation.
